The monster vendetta
This probably isn't the right place to post this but maybe another ranger could give me some advice. on ANet's recent offering on the Altar of Sheer Slavering Stupidity.......
The other night me and my bf were doing the second last mission where you kill Shiro and the Lich. Things went a bit pear shaped and everyone with the exception of nimble-footed moi got killed. Fair enough.... Mistakes were made and we paid for it.
I did the intelligent thing, I put a lot of distance between myself and the monsters, then I went back to res the group.
So help me, as I picked up the monsters on the edge of my radar, they started to pursue. I put a lot of distance between myself and the monsters...again!
I waited. I went back and when I picked up the monsters on the edge of my radar, they started to pursue...again.
And so it went on....and on....and on....and on.
I not only could not break aggro, THEY WERE PICKING ME UP 4 AGGRO CIRCLES AWAY!
Eventually we resigned and restarted.
This is not the first time this has happened, but usually the monsters eventually calm down or you restart the mission.
So can someone tell me what the deal is? Are these little aggro circles now a thing of the past? How does on break aggro under these circumstances?
Am I the only one who thinks that ANet has maintained its inane tradition of systematically finding the time and resources to trash the game (when there are things that have been screaming for attention for over a year?)
I feel like I am eating crazy pills - Mugatu

I've noticed this too, in one of the nightfall mission, but in my case it was good cause i was playing a degen build at the time, so i could lure them away without having to get close, then just wait for them to die.
But i have no idea why they've changed the aggro range, might be a mistake having to do with the kournan spotters increased line of sight.

this doesn't happen only in Nightfall...
this happened to me several times in the UW with the smites...
it is a nuisance but usually you brake this aggro by causing a few damage to the thingys...

It's the new Ai update, this happens in FoW too, try soloing the beach spiders these days, you agro scale miles away from your agro bubble, they might aswell delete your agro bubble no
Same thing happened to me when i did madnes with my ranger, could not rez party because of that

Welcome to the new AI! The best way I've found to cope with this is to have the monsters chase you to a far point while letting them stay at your heels. Then make a circle and run from the enemy as fast as possible. If it works, then the enemy will settle at a location farther from the bodies and you will be able to reach your allies without triggering aggro again. The best way to do this is by leading the enemy in a big circle if possible.

Yea casters never break aggro now. If you die with a Nuker monster nearby, you are f***ed.
That is why I pull enemies now instead of having the team Leroy run in, makes life much more controllable.

On a side-note, this behavior exists since the beginning of the game in pre-searing. If you engage a group a charrs in the Northlands and run back, the monk will have a brak, and then chase you miles away if needed. Once you kill him, the other caster of the team will come. Then the warriors / rangers. Bugged AI? This is what made solo farming there easy for me

The chase of Charr in Pre Searing is totally different from what now occurs in NF. I got away from monsters, they were TOTALLY off my radar, screw the aggro bubble. They weren't even on the compass view screen, but the moment I tried to res someone, here they come at full charge to come get me. Their is no way to break aggro at a normal running rate it would seem.
This is new, since to have aggro to the point even to when I left the area, walked away from my keyboard for 15-20 minutes, and came back to the game to see the same monsters come chase me as soon as I got onto the compass map with them, is very bad.
